Asserting an innovative, forward-thinking vision has been central to Canadian steel producers resilience through the years.

For generations, Canada’s steel producers have forged their reputation on adapting to customer needs. As we look to the challenges ahead, we remain confident that steel producers bring the skills, creativity and leadership to embrace new technologies and approaches to address them.

Cutting Edge Technologies

CSPA members work to ensure their facilities are equipped with leading edge technologies capable of delivering the next generation of products custom-engineered to the needs of customers. Automation and robotics are a cornerstone to today’s steel manufacturing business.

Research Initiatives

CSPA members are undertaking critically important research in support of the longer term decarbonization of the steel sector. To achieve long term dramatic improvements in its climate change performance, Canadian steel producers will need new breakthrough technologies and solutions. The industry has significant research underway with Canmet labs and continues to seek new partnerships on research initiatives in this area.

Canadian Carbonization Research Association & ArcelorMittal Dofasco, Hamilton, ON

Through CSPA’s participation in the Canadian Carbonization Research Association, members have developed three demonstration projects that would see the greenhouse gas emissions of the sector reduced significantly. One project under development at ArcelorMittal Dofasco in Hamilton would involve the first commercial demonstration of a new biocarbon clean technology and could see emissions reduced from this operation by ~120,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
