Canadian Steel Producers Provide Update Following Meetings in Ottawa

June 6th, 2025, Ottawa, ON - Following an intense day of dialogue between the Canadian steel industry's senior leadership, the United Steelworkers of Canada and the Government of Canada, President and CEO of the Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA), Catherine Cobden released the following statement:

“The CSPA had constructive and frank discussions with federal Ministers and senior officials in Ottawa yesterday. It is clear that the government is seized with the gravity of the situation facing Canadian steel and understands the need for expediency in responding.

“Work is ongoing to take urgent action to support Canada’s steel sector, stabilize the domestic market and improve our longer-term viability in the face of mounting global trade disruption.

“The CSPA expects to see concrete action taken as early as next week and we offer our full support to Canadian policymakers to ensure that action comes forward as soon as possible.”
