Canadian Steel Producers Respond to Government Announcement on Buy Canadian Products

September 5, 2025, Ottawa, Ontario – François Desmarais, Vice President of Trade and Industry Affairs for the Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA), issued the following statement:

"CSPA welcomes today's announcement by the Government of Canada regarding the implementation of a Buy Canadian policy that will ensure the use of Canadian steel in public projects, wherever possible."

"Canadian steel producers have the capacity to replace more than 80% of the imported steel we consume domestically."

"We also support the government's stated intention to support the improvement of our industrial capabilities so that we can offer products not currently manufactured in Canada and for which there is significant potential." »

"We look forward to working with the government to establish clear and comprehensive policies regarding the use of Canadian steel in public projects."
