Canadian Steel Producers Association Reacts to the Government’s Tariff Response Package

August 25th, 2026, OTTAWA, ON — Today, the Canadian Steel Producers Association (CSPA) issue the following statement reacting to the Government of Canada’s response to U.S. tariffs:

The Canadian Steel Producers Association supports the Government of Canada’s decision to match tariffs on American steel products and welcomes support packages for Canadian workers to defend our domestic industry.

Canada's steel producers are highly competitive and throughout this trade dispute initiated by the U.S. Administration, we have sought to ensure that we have as level a playing field as possible. The measures the Canadian Government took today to increase the tariff on U.S. steel to 50% advances this goal.

Canadian steel producers maintain that no deal is better than a bad deal, and that we continue to have confidence in the Canadian negotiation team in finding a durable, successful path forward.
